Scientific design rule

The uploaded file and every embedded metadata field are treated as source evidence. A corrected or higher-quality position is stored as a new assertion rather than silently overwriting the original EXIF position.

Prototype audit findings

Useful ideas from the chat are retained: backend metadata extraction, MySQL persistence, high-zoom mapping, filters/gallery, CSV export, roles and audit logging. The prototype changes one important pattern: corrections do not mutate raw EXIF. Originals, derivatives and coordinate assertions are distinct.

Basemap choice is user-controlled. Esri is the default for local/XAMPP testing. OSM can be selected when testing from your cPanel-hosted site; if the OSM tile service rejects a request, switch back to Esri.
